Default Freeview in HD

Will it happen? When? And if so when will you be able to buy a TV with an integrated "HD" freeview tuner.

Was in the Sony centre at the weekend and see you now get integrated HD Freesat.

OK, thanks, do you think they will ever broadcast in HD over the normal TV aerial on the roof?

i doubt it but im not 100% on that ... i think for the quailty of HD a dish will allways be needed but who knows what new technology will come out .
some one might come along who knows a bit more about this stuff.

Could this be the time for the BBC to introduce the new charging scheme as i have heard they have been told next year is the last year they can use the current charging system (TV licence).

I seem to remember reading that the analog switch-off will free up space in the available frequencies and this is what will allow the HD channels to be broadcasted over freeview to 'normal' aerials? Hopefully someone can confirm/deny my ramblings...

Anyone else think HD is a bit over-rated? A good quality (it varies a LOT) transmission on a decent TV in standard definition looks perfectly acceptable imo. And unless it's Blu-ray and in 1080p on a top-notch TV, "HD" doesn't look a whole lot better.

SkyHD comes complete with placebo effect.

Whilst we're at it, who's so sick of those black bars that you get when watching a film on your "widescreen" 16:9 TV that you'll go and buy a new 21:9 TV simply to remove them? They're clever those TV manufacturers. They waited till every chump had at least one 16:9 LCD/Plasma before declaring them defunct, even though movies have been shot in the 2.39:1 format since god knows when. Certainly long before the move to 16:9 TVs.
