When you've picked one you like the look of, www.dpreview.com tend to be quite good at writing up the point & shoots as well as the full-on DSLRs, so just have a read through the full review if they have one in case there are any particular criticisms.
I'm afraid I know very little about what's currently "hot" in the world of budget point and shoots, so can't recommend anything. Jambo

Yep, we've got Cannons at work and good pics. Had two different models and both take good shots straight from the box. One didn't like being dropped, hence we got another. But then most cameras don't lie being dropped
![]() But I also rate my Fuji 5600, but its out of your price range

Thanks all, jambo, dpreview have not done a review on this particular camera, typical, but i have read a review on a similar site, gets a good review considering it is quite cheap as cameras go, and seems to be backed up by peeps recomendations on here, so unless something else pops up, canon a480 it is, thanks peoples.

Check with steve's digicams too. They've reviewed it "Bottom Line - the Canon PowerShot A480 is an excellent choice for anyone looking to enter the digital camera market."
I'd suggest size is important, a camera is only any good if you have it with you, and the A480 looks like a cracking starter. I have a Canon Ixus (earlyish model) and I've always been happy with Canon's images.
