Black Screen crash?

My destop PC has stopped working...

I turn it on and it goes through to a screen and gives several boot up options, such safe mode, normal boot ect.No matter what I select it goes through some loading process in less than 30 seconds reboots its self.

Its stuck in that pattern, could the above be releated to this as in this article on the bbc web page;

If is the above how do I fix it, or if its something else how do I fix it? I was thinking just reload xp right? The compter was made/built in 2003 running XP service pack and has the current updates installed before this happened. Any thoughts ideas?

Sounds like it could well be.

But also from the article...."The firm has issued a fix for the problem, which it says could affect "millions" of computers." so perhaps go to the MS website, download the patch to a memory stick and boot from that??

Ok, google system restore from recovery console.

somtmes ive seen this with failing PSU at work, depends realy on age of machine, usualy XP does not just start doing that

Right scanned the other posts so excuse me if I've missed something but what I heard on the radio the other day indicated it was only vista and 7 that are affected by the black screen o.d, could be wrong there but symptoms sound to me more like a fooked os install (in which case the suggested repair option from the disk would be your favourite) or and (and if the former fails) a new hard drive. Doing it in that order will lose your data, if there's stuff you need to save there's other options.

That's assuming this isn't to do with yet another one of MS's royal **** ups

No they said it wasn't just windows 7 that was affected. Older systems too

The links suggests 'a black screen of death after logging in' the OP suggests an os system looping. As said my bet is either HDD or O.S
