Default What's this?

Broken down, I managed to break down about a week ago and John (icanopit) Thinks the front spark plug has gotten wet, I've had the bike stored in a dry garage for a week now. I went to dry/clean the spark plug today but i thought I'd try starting the bike first to see if it had dried on its own. However i noticed the thing in the picture smoking, sizzling and not smelling great it was also very hot when i touched it concidering i'd only tried to start the bike twise

Main break down, any ideas?
I was riding along normally and then the engine started grouning... it held its speed but when i tried to excellerate it just grouned more without increase the speed. Was on a small busy lane so rode on to find a safe space to pull over however 15/20 seconds later the bike died completely. had to push it back 4 miles with a full tank of petrol... Been in the garage sinse and now i've the above problem.

Any ideas? thanks

that is the connection to your starter motor. Well worth pulling that rubber bit clear, undoing the nut under there and giving it all a generally good clean. If its getting hot and so on then it sounds like its not connecting as well as it should be.

Not sure i understand your description of what the bike did when you tried to accelerate tho. What do you mean by it "grouned" more?

Sorry I'm no good at explaining things and my knowledge of bikes is currently none existent.

It was a deep roar, Could feel it was adding the fuel and wanting to go faster but wouldn't have it.

sorry mate, tough one to help with over the net. But make sure you do what i said re the connection to the starter motor. Might be a good idea to disconnect the battery before you start just in case here is a short or something too. Better safe than sorry as disconnecting the battery is done easily.

Id say as Peter says, the connector on the starter may need a clean or tightening. That shouldn't really get hot and if it is that is due to excessive resistance.

As to the grounding, id say that you mean it was running roungh and when you tried to accelerate it bogged down? If thats the case its fairly possible its the front spark plug having water in it.

Im not sure how easy it is to get to as I never had a problem with mine at all. Im sure someone will be along who has more exp with that.

Whoa, don't touch that unless you have a thin 10mm spanner *and* another 10mm spanner, you try to undo or tighten it without that and you'll crack the plastic within the starter and you'll need then to take the starter motor apart to replace it (IIRC a ~£20-£30 part too as you need to buy it complete with the bush assembly).

You need the thin 10mm to go on the nut under the cable to hold it in place while you tighten or loosen the nut (using the second 10mm spanner).
