Default Copper tries to wriggle out of speeding conviction

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/8425233.stm

Anyone who lives or works in N. Wales knows full well that the A55 through Colwyn Bay is a 50 limit (stupidly IMHO). To try to wriggle out of doing double the limit on a technicality brings his profession into disrepute.

If he had got off on this technicality, could the thousands of speeding fines levied on this stretch every year have been reclaimed by those convicted? If that is the case and his appeal is successful then he has seriously undermined his force to save his own neck.

Coppers round here, unbelievable!

although fair play to the copper that nicked him, he could have let him go when the warrant card was flashed..

Caught and justly so.

Why is he trying to fight it when he knows hes in the wrong?

Even if the signs were in poor locations and badly lit, we dont have a speed limit of 98mph anywhere in the country.

I agree that it was right that the charge was upheld. I do however reckon that many of us here would have tried the same defence had we thought it might work...

I hope they double do him for wasting the courts time.

98mph, even if it was a 70 limit is still way over - plonker

Agreed .....

As much as I keep hearing 'The limit is wrong in IMO' .... the limits are the limits ..... and if others are sticking to it, or expecting people to be near to it, and you're nailing it at 90mph .... thats a huge difference in speeds, and hense does make it dangerous ....

Fair comment, but with the focus on speed in N. Wales plus the fact he works for the force, you'd think he would have more sense?

I don't see owt wrong with that. It's a daft limit there to raise revenue. Undermine away! Would have been nice to see the appeal upheld.
