You can use pretty much any mastercylinder you can get to fit, doubtful it'd be worth swapping though. I'd just paint your existing one.

Yeah you can get a decent enough finish with hammerite, or maybe a hammerite spray (I've found it less hardwearing, but a better finish), for the amount the rear mastercylinder's actually on sight I wouldn't put too much time/effort into it personally.
BTW don't quote me on the rear mastercylinder thing, I could be wrong. But with the standard caliper on the back, unless you're racing it (maybe saving a tiny bit of weight etc?) I can't see a reason to change it. Also think how much you actually use your rear brake.

lol good point but i think spraying the thing may be a bit harder than using a brush but will see what its like when i get it off the bike and no you cant see it that much just want it to be black behind my black rear sets so it doesn't look tatty

thought about polishing it up then decided i already have the front wheel to do so cant be bothered with it

I seam to remember seeing someone who fitted a rear master cylinder from a CR450 or similar many years back.

Was fitted as it works well, was small, and was light. The only mod was to the heal guard to drill a hole for the level sight glass as the mounting points were identical eye to eye. I believe they either used it with the HRC tube or it may be so small the reservoir is within the cylinder, no external tubing. But I've looked before for the thread and have failed to find it. No idea on cost of one or the exact model. But hopefully that is enough for you to go on.

Oh and count down to a massive debate on if you should be using your rear brake, at all, in the wet, only at slow speed, only in snow, only on Tuesdays. Before progressing to front braking techniques and tyre choice, completely missing the point of the original question.

^cheers will have a look and no problems with heal plates in the way of the sight glass

and i use the brake more with the GF on the back and at the moment seems under powered but i think it needs fresh fluid but thought might as well upgrade for same price as paints and stuf

hmm looks like the cr450 cylinder thread is to small to fit my rear sets so other suggestions welcome

Possibly another MX type bike would be suitable then, or alternatively you could drill and re-tap the rearsets or the master cylinder to suit.

Why don't you go down the HRC route no reservoir just a stopper

I have a problem with my rear Master Cylinder, I have just tried to remove the heel plates to start polishing and the bolts that hold the Master cylinder have rounded out on the allen head bolts.

It would seem that the small 4mm heads are not exactly hard and the bolts are hugely tight. So my Allen key has just taken the corners out of the head and I am stuck not knowing how to get them out.

Any tips folks before I take a drill to the swine!
