Was in my local garage last week & asked how much he charged for a service(plugs,air/oil filter, oil),he quoted me £215!!!
Why is it so expensive, now I can buy the parts for about £50 & i'm sure an experience mechanic would do it in under 1hr!!! Next time i'm doing the work myself, might even enjoy it ![]() |

£130-£150 for the 15k (valve clearences) service round here. A lesser service would be a good deal less.

Think I usually pay around £120 (incl. oil/filter/plugs etc).
15k (valve clearance) service was just on £200 I think. |

Maybe its worth learning how to do some of the simpler things, like the oil change ant spark plug change - like you say, parts are cheap, and provided you have decent tools and work methodically and carefully, you'll get it completly right and save a packet
![]() Where abouts do you live? If you live in / near london you could get your bike to spannerman (he's a member on here, Stewarts Motorcycles if you google) in the future, he does an excellent service and dosn't charge the earth |

I'm a total novice to mechanics and doing that service took me two hours (mainly due to the radiator and front plug fitting being a bit of a pain), cost for parts from wemoto:
Spark Plug NGK 2 @ 4.83 = £ 9.66 Rock Oil - Semi Synthetic - Per Litre 3 @ 5.77 = £ 17.31 Air Filter 1 @ 13.80 = £ 13.80 Oil Filter HiFlo 1 @ 8.33 = £ 8.33 Tool - Oil Filter Wrench For Hiflo Filter 1 @ 7.48 = £ 7.48 Sump Plug - Drain Ally Washer 1 @ 0.24 = £ 0.24 total £56.84 Fitting Free Note, that oil wrench fits a 3/4 inch socket Ratchet which I didn't have so had to buy a convert for a fiver as well Oh and it was kinda fun to do Last edited by 5hort5; 15-12-09 at 01:00 PM. |
