Default Riding to work

As my sv is my only form of transport i use it for the commute to and from work. Now if you didnt notice we have had a bit of snow and im expected to be in work at 9:30 tonight, working through an agency, i phoned at 4:30pm saying i the snow was too bad im not going to make it in, they said "you come in tonight or dont come back again". Im still not going to in.
What becomes funny is theres another guy who rides a bike to and from work but rides like a complete noob on his gsxr600 desided it was worth the risk, i have just been told outside of work he has crashed his gsxr written it off, and the bike skidded in to a car. Luckily he was able to walk away with no injuries.
When i found out i phoned the agency saying that someone else has crashed there bike and theres no chance im coming in. There reply "get in tonight or dont come back, if your worried about crashing your bike, walk or use a taxi" now getting a taxi is going to cost more than i earn in a night and it will take about 2 hours to walk there. so i see an employment tribunal coming up.
but my problem how much can i expect for a case like this any idea's?
And does anyone else use there bike for commuting and do they have this problem in the winter?

I'm not sure that you have a case on this really.

Yes it is bad for them to try and force you to ride in this weather or get a taxi, but agancys are usually just casual labour anyway.

If you dont go in, someone else probably will.

*Note for future* Call in sick and dont use the weather as an excuse.

Good luck with them anyway.

I use my bike in winter.
I can walk if I have to, so haven't had a problem.

Sorry I can't help.

a 2 hour walk isnt beyond the realms of possibility provided its reasonably safe to do so. you made the right decision about not riding though, thats just insane.

Ring up 10 mins before your shift "ive fallen off my bike cus you made me ride in im going to hospital to get checked out", if you still have a job after that you will have to take a few fairings off for a while...

How much snow ?
How long would it take you to walk ?
Do you like the job you are doing ?

Personally I think you are being wise by not riding, do you really want to work for an agency that treats people like dirt and expects them to risk serious accident by getting to work, especially when Police / Highways agency are saying not to travel unless its critical for you to do so. Note I dont class getting to work as critical.

Sadly some people take the p*ss where Snow is concerned and then they spoil it for people who genuinely struggle to get in...

Don't rely on poor excuses. What are those two things dangling from your torso? What would you do if you didnt have the bike?

I ride all year, and jump on the train, buses or cycle when needs be.

the amount of snow in my area has stopped the buses, 4x4's and trucks, i have seen one quad bike go through it. a 2 hour walk from my side of wolvo to the far side of darlaston. yes i hate agency work, the job isnt great but the girls i work with are worth keeping the job, the bike is a naked so crashing wouldnt be noticed unless i take the crash bungs off for a few days.

and not being able to get into work because of traveling risks isn't a good enough reason to get rid of you, and tbh i dont think many trucks are going to be heading in so work should be quiet anyway.

Well then I'd have to say I think they are being unreasonable...

No job is worth risking your life / health for and thats what they are IMHO asking you to do... stick to your guns.

IMHO
