Bike still running very hot but told to get a regulator /rectifier. I have done an oil change & changed the cooling system as well as using a dremal to smooth the carbs and what a difference. Changed the air filter for an after market one and wow the bike can shift. Does anyone know if you can get a bike superchiped????. Also added aviation fuel to the petrol & this is suppose to clean out the system so will let you know how it goes. Thanks guys you have been a great help. Also can you use car engine flush to clean the sludge out and then use slick 50 for topping up the oil as it is the ultimate in engine protection. If you have any info that may be useful then get in touch as i am all ears. Oh & you can jump a bike from a car as long as the car is not started & you remove the leads straight away. Running hot is *NOTHING* to do with the reg/rec (but your lack of charging may be).
What do you mean by "used a dremel to smooth the carbs" No you cannot get it 'superchipped' You can use engine flush but do not use slick 50, it will f*ck your clutch up. This is a 650 forum though, go see http://www.400greybike.info/newforum/viewforum.php?f=21 for 400 specific help Druid

I just think it's a shame people feel the need to enhance their lives by winding others up. We get an awful lot of new bikers on here who ask genuine questions about how to solve various problems so that they can enjoy their motorcycling a bit more and wind up merchants like this just undermine that process.

Pagan,
flush the engine with some normal motorcycle oil - unless the bike hasnt had an oil change in ages and ages then this should be sufficient. I'd use some cheap halford motorcycle oil, run the engine (take it for a ride aorund the block), then drain and refill with good quality oil (castrol or something). Replace the oil filter at this time aswell ![]() Another fuel additive you can use is Silkolene PRO FST; it was developed in the early 90's I think for kawasaki owners, who had problems with carb icing in this country. Some things to think about for the future: checking the valve clearances (ooohhhh so lovely on an NC24, no cam-over-bucket and shim, easy to adjust!) and getting the carbs fully balanced - its a bit of a tricky job on NC's, they are fiddly to get to and they are apparently quite sensitive to adjustment. As for superchipping...whats that anyway? ![]() |
