Default Alternative to PC3 on SVthou?

I got a mate with an SV1000 and he is saying that it isnt running too well and he is getting crazy bad MPG. I not had chance to really look or listen to it at all recently so i cant comment... It obviously sounds like the fueling has gone to pot and its running badly because of it. He did have a Dyno done ages ago and he says that the A/F was pretty all over, but obviously that only shows full throttle.

Sooooo he dont seem too up on the idea of the best part of £500 being spent on a PC3 and custom map (who can blame him!?) and I have heard about the oshi box (or something like that) that can reprogram the ECU in a similar sense to how the PC3 does. Has anyone got any experience with this, what are the risks and costs?

Cheers

If the fuelling is all over surely it points to the ECU anyhow, so it is either going to be a new ecu or a PCIII which will have to work its tits off torectify what seems a serious problem. SO throwing money at a fooked ECU wit ha PC would be pontless. tell himn to get the fault cheked out properly rather than try to find a way to botch round it.

Speak to Mattsv, he had his SV1000 done that way.

PM SV650Racer or phone Steve Jordan Motorcycles - they did mine by remapping the stock ECU

Not sure what he classes as mad MPG - I used to be able to get the light on on mine after 80 miles if I was riding like a ****.

Usual EFI rider error is to start "tuning" it when there's something daft mechanically wrong with it.

Check everything's balanced and it's not getting hung up in cold start enrichment or owt daft.

Yes it is possible to remap the stock ECU with very good results, we have done lots of these over the past few years as an alternative to a PC or Interceptor fueling unit.

Has anything on the bike changing causing it to fuel badly?. IE exhausts.

Air pressure sensor in the air box can fail causing the bike to fuel very badly. Quite common on the SV650. Remapping wont cure this, a new sensor would be required. These sensors dont fault code either when they fail. So if nothing has changed in terms of you fitting an exhaust then you need to look outside of the fueling for your cure.

I'd start looking for air leaks' split hoses, rubber seals and so on so forth

Then if all checks out ok, go for inspecing the electrics

I think a throttle balance is certainly a good starting point, something I have already mentioned. Ill have to get more info as to what might have changed to bring this on.

Thanks for the advice so far.
