After a 65miles in the lovely rain, the mini rad (im not sure what it is) started steaming/smoking?

Any idea why, i think there is a fair amount of c*ap in there so im gonne try and clean it off, but apart from that i dont have a clue.

pics.

it was smoking mainly from the right hand side, would like to get it fixed as im selling the bike in an hour.

Its your oil cooler

Its going to get hot after 65 miles, but so long as there's no oil leak, i wouldn't worry.

Your oil levels ok I presume?

As far as I can see oil is full. I haven't changed it for about 2000 miles. Do you reckon it is all the shi*e then??

"After a 65miles in the lovely rain"
theres your problem right there, and wet gunk would smoke as it cooks beautifully around the rad.

But nout to worry about mine steams all the time after driving through the rain.

Hot oil cooler + cold rain water = steam

Good morning all.

It looks as if you have a leak on the left hand side (as you sit on the bike that is). It may just be the banjo bolt connection. It may be worth removing it & annealing the copper washers that act as seals. (Heat the washers up until they glow a little & let them cool before re-assembly).
Be careful if you remove it, make sure you hold the hex of the cooler with the correct sized spanner as you undo the banjo bolt.

Cheers.

to be honest, it does look a bit wet around that banjo, but I'd firstly clean the area, dry it all off and "talc" it, to see if it wa actually leaking before undoing anything, just to confirm it's a current leak and not a previous one that has been fixed, Oh and whilst Stewart is correct, replacements are pennies and what I'd probably do (of course making sure all mating surfaces are totally clean as well).

Cheers Mark.

I recall spannerman replacing a leaking hose to the oil cooler on a V-strom a while back; it was really corroded, the bike wasnt even that old - they are exposed to alot of crap and grime. Seemed like an easy thing to replace though

Seeing as the bike when its parked up, leans that way, I reckon its just where excess water has rested. Its got to drip from somewhere.
