Default iTunes - how to remove duplicate files without accidentally taking the whole lot

Just imported a my 1tb hdd into iTunes on iMac with osx 10.5.8 - many of the albums have duplicates of the songs, i.e. the whole library is listed with 2 of each repeated all the way down..

Any ideas how to fix this plz
