Default Modifications - Insurance

Just wondering how finely the insurance companies go into detail when concerning modifications. Do you inform them of every little mod, no matter how trivial? Do you inform them of mods you put on whilst the bike is insured? If so, does that change anything, do you have to pay more on the spot?

Thanks

most are quite good, i told them about the mods to my R1 like the pazzo leavers, braided lines and crash protection. it made no diff to the policy cost.

exhausts, i think unless it actually increases power by more than about 5% it should be ok. Race systems may increase the insurance a bit more.

crash protection (assuming you mean bungs etc?) should make the policy cheaper. Seeing as they'd have less to pay in the event of an accident

Declare everything, if you cant afford the premium increase for the modification you are doing, then dont do the modification.

Dont give them any excuse to get out of paying because you didnt declare anything.

The mods on my GSXR didnt effect the premium, neither did the ones I did to my SV...

When you get quotes get them with modifications declared. If you shop around you can find them.

I didn't bother with most stuff, just the serious stuff, suspension, brakes, engine tuning. All rest is cosmetic bumf that you can argue about.

I try to be slightly vague with descriptions and get them to send me a letter confirming they know about these things. That way ball is in their court to ask for more detail or an engineers report and I've got proof I've gone out of my way to give them the facts.

YMMV. I make no claim to knowing anything about insurance companies or how to deal with them.

Thanks for your replies guys.

What do I do if I add a modification whilst I am insured? Do I phone them and tell them or just leave it be till renewal?
