Hi everyone
I am new to the forum, and was thinking of buying an S1 naked Sv650 to replace my '99 R6. But what I want to know specifically about the SV, is what mpg you guys get on average. I get between 45 - 52 mpg (UK gallons) from my R6. 10 litres gets me at least 110 miles. Also, I use the sidestand on my bike to spin the bike around regularly, because I'm too lazy to push it back and forth to turn it around. One thing I noticed about the SV is the sidestand seems particularly long, and so not sure if it's possible to spin an SV on its sidestand. Does anyone have experience of this? Much thanks, Glen |

MPG seems much the same which suprises me.
YC spins his round on the stand everytime he uses it and thats a 2001 naked. HTH |

My SV gets about 45 mpg in london, maybe 60 mpg when out of london at more constant engine speeds
How come you want an SV to replace the R6? The handling won't be as good, its a bit of a longer bike so possibly more uncomfrotable, a bit heavier too. Engine is good low down though, and the sound is intoxicating ![]() Some other info: Sevice intervals are: about 4000 miles for oil change, Spark plugs 8000 miles, air filter 12,000 miles (inspect at 8000 though). 16,000 for valve clearance check. Cheers, Matt |

Thanks for the replies and info guys. This forum is super active.
Is the handling not very good on the curvy naked SV's? I've had my R6 for 8 years, and just fancied something different, and hopefully slightly more relaxing. I do a lot of commuting and figured an SV would be better suited. Cheers, Glen |

Well, it wont be as sharp, and the suspension is likley to be alot softer. Mind you, its nothing fresh fork oil, stiffer springs and a hagon rear shock wouldnt cure (about £350 there).
The SV is a great commuting bike, its lazy engine means you can just get home and not have to work too hard. Its a bit more upright than an R6 i imagine too |

the curvy is pretty upright even compared to a pointy. The naked and your pretty much bolt upright because of the bars been mounted on the top yolk rather than by clip ons. TBH mate I'd say you'd prob benifit more from having a faired curvy, its miles more relaxed than your R6 will be thats for sure.
I've spent 10hours on mine only getting off for pi55's petrol and food and got off it completly fine, this was inspite of only ever doing 30min commutes on it prior to that. The SV will be a step backwards from the R6, but if your going for a comfy commuter than IMO you wont find a better one nor is there another one better than the SV, should you decide you want to wind it on an have some B road fun. You'd prob benifit from having the suspension serviced/stiffened and a new rear shock but again, if your only commuting on it then I wouldnt be too worried about this. Some good SV's available on eghay at the moment, have you already got rid of the R6 or you looking to part ex/get rid of it first? |

Yeah I was aware that the SV won't be as sharp or powerful as my R6. I would also consider a faired S1, but tbh, I don't really like the look of them as much as the naked versions.
I haven't sold my R6 yet... as I need a bike to commute to work. The traffic really sucks on my route to work so driving would be horrible. But is up for sale on pistonheads at the moment. May even consider a p/x if anyone is interested. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1514338.htm Cheers, Glen |

where abouts are you glen, maybe one of the local forum members would be willing to let you take a test ride provided your insurance covers it etc.
Na I know what you mean I've got the faired K1 and it isnt as nice looking IMO as the naked one, oddly its the opposite for the pointy models fully faired is the only way to go lol. |

Hi Matt,
Thanks for the heads up. I live near Cambridge. It's a shame that I'm more attracted to the naked one, as I know the faired model is probably a better all-rounder. Completely agree with you. Pointy model definitely better faired. cheers, Glen |

A bit far for me to be the one to meet you. Well you know what you want more than I do mate so dont let me change your mind.
With what you originally asked, the MPG of the SV is around high 50's and some people suggest into theh 60's depending on how spirited you are. Turning it on the side stand isnt a problem either, as I said one member I know has to do this every time he takes it from the garage and he has no problems. Obviously I'd check the stands condition from time to time to be safe but its not an issue worthy of preventing your purchase. Hope to see you back on the forum in the near future, but as an owner. Cheers. Matt |
