Went to clean up my front calipers today only to find the dust selas had popped out again (last happened about summer time so i put in brand new seals)
Any idea why they keep escaping and how to stop them? Thanks |

You need to clean the grooves properly before refitting the seals, they need to be completely free and square if the seal is to stay in the groove for any significant amount of time. Use rubber grease not brake fluid as a lubricant when assembling.
This will slow the onset of the corrosion that causes this problem.

You've been taking technical advice from Zig

You mean you can't use jam on bearings?

The horrid crystalline stuff wedging your pistons in place is mostly dried brake fluid, rather than salt.

get the red rubber grease in them. I had problems with mine quite often as I ride through the year but they have been fine since I used the rubber grease on them. They will also benefit from a proper thorough clean out. The crud gets very hard to shift and will need scraping out with some thick wire/hooked end of a small screwdriver, dremell brush etc. You will need to see clean metal inside the seal recess to have a lasting effect.
Sorry to preach if you have done the proper clean out but I did half a job once and had to do it all over again only a couple of months later ![]() |

Dental picks are good for this, you can also bend and sharpen brazing rod to suit. They're more gentle but no good for getting really stubborn corrosion off.
