Hi All,
Does anyone know of any insurance companies out there who would insure me for a month at a time? It's just the insurance has now ran out and as I'm selling the SV didnt want to renew, but was wondering: a) do I need to have the bike insured for when people test ride it or is it soley on their insurance b) if it does need to be insured does anyone know of any companies that would offer a short term solution? The bikes all locked up in my garage so no worries about it being nicked or anything just a case of not being able to get her out on the open road. Thanks in advance for any input. Phil |

cool, didn't realise it would be that cheap, so if I were to insure the bike on a thrid party only policy, would that mean that someone else could ride it for test ride or would I have to go for fully comp to ensure they are insured, as that doubles the price? hope that makes sense?
Cheers Phil |

Cheers all, just had a response from dayinsure, they advised that the insurance would ONLY cover me NOT the potential buyer, so would have to set the person up on temp insurance for the sake of 1 test ride, but would have to give all their details before letting them ride off on the bike (obviously with payment in hand), cant imagine any buyer being up for all that agro.......how does everyone else do it? As in....someone wants to test ride your bike, do you have to assume they have their own cover or just take the riusk of letting them ride your bike on no insurance?
Thanks |

and with regards to them having their own cover, would you request them to bring an insurance certificate along with them as proof? As after reading more into it looks like its the BUYER responsibilty to get covered.

It is the buyers and your responsibility to ensure that he or her is covered to ride your bike. They will need to have insurance that covers them to ride other vehicles. If they were to have an accident or be stopped by the police and were found not to be insured they would be charged with riding with no insurance and you would be charged with aiding and abetting no insurance.

Cheers for the info WW, so I'd be best to tell them to bring insurance docs so they can prove they have current insurance?
Cheers again... |

Yes get them to bring the relevant paperwork. Their certificate of insurance may or may not say wheather they are entitled to ride other bikes, im not too sure, so they may need to bring other papers showing policy entitlement. Just to note, you yourself could not be charged for aiding and abetting if they showed you fake paperwork or even just told you verbally that they were insured. To be charged with aiding and abetting the police must prove that you knowingly let them ride uninsured.
Im afraid I know a little about this from a mistake I made in my youth when I let a friend drive my car which cost me my license. After admitting to the police that I knew he was not covered the nice policeman told me that if I had said "he told me he had insurance" I could not of been charged. We live and learn..........and grow up. |
