Default Oh dear!

I have been asked by a neighbour to help him service his bike. One of these. A Hyosung GT125R.

It is currently sat in our garage next to my 125 and it dwarfs my little Henry. It is about the same size as my SV, despite being a 125 V-Twin. The exhaust is rotted out and broken, despite being only a couple of years old and it has an oil leak that I have to find (not happy about it dripping oil on the garage floor!).

The frame is horrid, all steel cradle type and the rear sub frame is welded on with bird dropping welds. From a distance it looks nice, but up close it has flaws that are not great. Prefer my 20 year old Honda to be honest and I know I can get spares easily.

Also according to the specs, it is just over 14 BHP and the young lad is riding it on L-Plates... Hmm.

Anyway, reason I am posting this. Anyone out there familiar with these things and know where the oil leak is most likely to be? A quick look reveals an accumulation around a joint in the engine case, but I am wondering if this is the leak site or just where it gathers before dripping on the floor.

It was much more fun helping Nemesis work on his SV yesterday, at least that was a nice bike. This thing looks, sounds and feels nasty.

i supose you have checked the obvious places for the oil leak EG oil filter (if like the sv), drain bolt , sump plug , oil filter housing , oil filter drain plug?

what you should could do is wash it first and then see if the oil is comming from casing where you sead you can see it or is just colecting there

You'll find it's below 14.6bhp as allowed by the legislation.

I agree they are indeed a horrible POS not fit to be called a motorcycle. Thank the gods you are not chasing a wiring problem on one. They make aprilia electrics look like the pinnacle of reliability.

You may find the following links useful if you do not already know of them

http://korider.com/
http://www.hyosung-gtr.com

and I really love this one
http://www.hyosungsource.com/ This is the shop front for Mr Lees Bike shop

The frames are all the same size of the 125, 250 and 650. the latter being targeted at the SV650 market. Hyosung also make parts for Suzuki which I am sure we all know of.

Right all done, two possible places for the oil leak.

1, strange bolt on bottom of crank case, may be a secondary drain hole. Bolt head is fitted with a tabbed plate to stop working loose. Tabbed plate seems to be made from mechano, but not as hard!

2, oil drain plug was hugely over tightened. It does not have a copper washer and tightens against a smooth surface. If it continues to leak from here, I will fit a copper washer. Strange that they would not fit one.

Other issues, the oil drain plug had large flakes of metal on it and some filings. However, I saw worse when the clutch plates on my old CG went. The oil filter had metal flakes in it that could be measured with a kids school ruler! Three to five mm in size... Eek.

The sump contained about 750ml of oil. To get it back up to the right level, I put 1.5L in.

The chain was sagging by about two inches and when the bike was sat on, would go down to about an inch and a half. I adjusted this to the inch recommended in the owners manual.

The exhaust is rotted out fully and needs replacing. It has hardly done any miles but it look like it has been left on the sea front for ten years of bad winters.

This is a heavy bike, moving my SV after felt quite easy. Usually after moving my 125, the SV feels like it is cast lead. Mind you, I can lift my CG off of its wheels on my own, not with this one.

The SV does(should!) have a copper washer on the drain plug.
