Default Engine just died while riding (after fuel hose fitting)

Hi all,

It's me again . I seem to be having endless troubles with my bike :'( so I hope it will end soon. A SV650s Curvy K2 (it has quite a few miles on the clock - 48,000 - but I hoped this would not be a problem).

Yesterday I replaced the fuel pipe with one from Halfords - 5.6mm diameter. Anyway, I fitted it, went to take it for a spin and the engine just cut out 200 yards from my house. No engine lights came on, so I can only suspect it is due to this.

Then it wouldn't start and I had to wheel it back in the direct sunlight with my bike gear on. I tried to start it at my house and again no luck. I left it for a few minutes, and decided to put the choke on and sure enough it started :S. I've been too nervous to take it out today (in case it reoccurs further afield).

But I don't understand what could cause this. There are/was no kinks in the pipe which could restrict fuel flow. The pipe, I think, is resting in the correct location (since the fuel tank doesn't close properly if the pipe's any other). So any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, if I'm not a member of the AA, can they still offer breakdown assistance, but charge you each time you use them? Because my above comment, if I breakdown miles from home then it won't be ideal to push it 25 miles home (and I've just moved to the area I'm currently at, so no one I know can help)... so I wondered if I call them, if they can help me get it home and charge me for the lift?

If not, do you know of any national companies who do? Since I don't want to be stranded for hours on end without the ability to get home

Regards
Kelvin

Hi Kelvin

I sounds to me like the fuel hose is to small (without looking at the haynes i can't confirm it) or its the fuel pump is full of crap needs replacing. Did you drain down the tank before doing the replacement?

With the recovery issue I would look at Yell thats what I did and found a spot on guy that does bikes.

sounds like mabey you forgot to put the vac hose back on to the fuel tap, without it no fuel will flow.

Thanks both - I meant to say that the engine ran fine for a bit.

Now I have just taken it out, at first there was some white smoke being produced (I am guessing this is just because it is hot outside). It only lasted a short while. I took it for a spin three times around the block and it seemed fine :S so I'm tempted to take it out on such a beautiful day.

But I will browse yell.com - good idea thanks
