Fed up having to decide on textiles/leathers depending on weather and would like better protection. Can somebody recommend a suit, the HG oxan is a sheltex and leather suit- looks ok and 20% off at the moment works out around £500 ideally would like goretex but most I have seen are seriously expensive?

I thought the waterproof leathers were a fairly new thing so they're all going to be expensive at the moment. I'd wait a few years
![]() Do you not have waterproofs for your leathers? So you could just bungee them to the bike on an unpredictable day? Or is that too much faff too. My leathers withstand light showers anyway, I wear a textile jacket as keeping the top dry is more important to me than the bottom half lol. |

A combination of leather and Sheltex is unlikely to breathe that well.... hence you might find yourself getting a bit sticky when it's warm. Even Gore-Tex doesn't breathe as well in warm weather as many people would have you believe, but it will certainly be better than Sheltex.
I would stick with having a choice of leathers or textiles, and like myc says carry some cheap waterproofs when wearing leather. On the other hand, with breathable membranes a lot depends on the individual and how much you perspire. I find that as long as I'm not wearing much more than underwear underneath it all, I'm ok in Gore-Tex up to about 25 degrees or so. Any more and nothing breathes enough... |

I've got the Oxan 2 Jacket and Trousers and they are really good. The leather will be treated with a DWR (durable water repellency) on the outside and the Sheltex is a waterproof and breathable membrane, which is in-between the leather outer and the fabric inner.
Of course, in warm weather, even with the thermal insert removed, it's going to get hot underneath because there is a membrane there, but if that's a big problem, you could always buy a cheaper non waterproof leather jacket for summer, or one of those non-waterproof very breathable textile jackets with the vented material ( I can't remember who makes these). |
