Carol's cat is somewhat neurotic and as a still intact Tom Cat is very strong, however, he is getting quite dirty and smelly and came home yesterday with what looks like engine oil on him. Parts of his fur are sticky to the touch and frankly he needs a bath.
![]() What is the easiest way of bathing him with out causing him huge amounts of trauma or with out us losing our hands, arms, eyes or lungs? I have wondered about putting him in the shower, but worry that the power of the water and the noise would freak him out. I think holding him in a bath of water would be difficult and dangerous to my skin. Any tips out there from you animal lovers and before the comments come, no I am not putting him down, shooting him with an air rifle or attaching sticks of dynamite to him, I love him and he loves me, it is just that he smells! Also, will bathing him wash front line off? |

Put on some strong rubber gloves, scruff the cat and hold it under the shower. Prolly best if you have someone to do the washing and someone else to hold the cat down. I dont think you're going to be able to do it without a fight though.
Dont know what front line is but I once successfully used Schwarfega to clean my cat after it took a run through my oil change. She did lose a bit of hair though.... Took her a while to forgive me for that one! |

In all honesty, it its dirt, then can be brushed away......but oil etc, only way I can see is by doing it in the bath. Or, take him to the vets who will give him a proper pampering.
I think I have seen in pets at home shampoo's etc for cats that didn't require bathing. But not sure. But you can 100% get Kitty / Cat wipes. She may toerate those, may not. But if it gets bad, then only 100% solution is a proper groomer.

1. Add the required amount of shampoo to the toilet water, and put both lids up.
2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom. 3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids. (You may need to stand on the lid.) The cat will self agitate and make ample suds. (Never mind the noises that come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this.) 4. Flush the toilet three or four times. (This provides a " power-wash" and "rinse".) 5. Have someone open the door to the outside (Be sure that there are no people between the toilet and the outside door.) 6. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids. 7. The now clean cat will rocket out of the toilet, and run outside where he will dry himself off. The toilet will be sparkling clean! |

Oh if its that stuff this is what they say about it...
is waterproof even as your cat grooms and your dog swims; so you might be ok. looks like its stored under the skin, not on the fur. |

McK - Yup, thats the stuff, quite an agreasive treatment that some vets wont even use now. Once applied to the neck, it actually allows for the chemical to secreet out of their skin. Thius any fleas etc that the cat comes into contact with are killed instantly. Great stuff, sorted a flea issue we had pronto.
And yes, it is waterproof as it is absorbed and retained in the skin.
