Hi guys I got a k6 sv650 and lately I've been noticing a sort of taperty noise coming from the engine, coming from the valve area of the engine, its only noticeable on tick over but its constantly there, also my idle speed has become slightly iratic (a hundred rpm or so either way) any ideas what this could be? I've also noticed a drop in fuel efficiency (down from 100 to 90 miles to fuel light on)
I tried to video the noise but its just too distorted thanks to my exhaust. I know I could do better at describing the sound but iI don't know how else to explain it. Also bikes on 13k miles and never missed a service Thanks in advance any help appreciated. Chris |

Erratic tickover, fuel consumption increased and engine noise.
First thing I'd check is throttle balance.

At 14,500m its due its valve clearance service which includes throttle body balance etc. Very rarely do the SV valve clearances go loose to make a noise, more often than not they go tight.
As Sid says throttle body balance and could be cam chain tensioner related noise. |

A full valve clearance service is normally around 5 hours labour plus Oil and Oil Filter and coolant if they remove the rad to do the front clearances. It may also need plugs, air filter and brake fluid. So will depend on what hourly rate they charge.
Up your way id recommend Tony at http://www.motocorseuk.com/ in Wrexham. Really nice guy and although he isnt a Suzuki agent he is very good at what he does and well known within the trade. If you get in touch with them let him know Sarah from Steve Jordan Motorcycles put you his way.. |
