I don't want to spend much, space wise at least 500GB as i'll be storing films and such like.
Any recommendations or are they all the same? |

Mine's a Seagate, does what it says on the tin, had it 3yrs or so, recommended. Maplins sometimes have special offers on them.

Just steer clear of ebuyer at all costs, the word 'Warranty' has no meaning for them in any way, shape or form.....

I've got a Buffalo PORTABLE hard drive, 320gb, think it was around £60...
I emphasise portable because it has no external power chord, runs completely off the usb power, and is not much bigger than an iphone - so super easy to cart around everywhere (mine comes in REALLY handy for uni work!!) |

For about £70 you can get a 1tb in Seagate form.
I bought a WD My passport 320gb the other day. Great drive, small and bus powered, however its 'firmware' takes up 20gb! My other 500gb external drive on my PC was/is a Lacie. it has a samsung drive inside and *touches wood* is fine and does the job |

I just bought an eSata/usb caddy and stuck a spare 1TB drive in.
Useful for bits. But remember if it is important it still needs t be backed up. At home I use a Qnap NAS and have a second systems in the garage that I back up to on a weekly basis.
