Default Budget Performance upgrades

Hi all,

pretty new to the forums and mechanics especially - so please bear with my likely daft questions!

Looking to get a few bits and bobs for my 2001 SV650S to improve its performance. Not so its superfast but just a few subtle bit e.g. air filter, brake pads.

Just wondering if anyone can give me a few hints of what I can get on a small budget that'll get a little more out of the bike

Cheers in advance!

Suspension.Set of good front springs to suit your weight with new oil in there, and a budget rear shock like a ZX6R one.£100 all in.

r1 or r6 throttle mod maybe?

Has a more extreme cam shape where the throttle cable connects to the grip, thus requires less twist of the wrist for full throttle openings. We fitted one to leedsmatt's pointy this weekend, he had this to say

Power/performance wise, its nice on the motorway. Found it very nice the other day coming back from leaving you lot, doing 80ish down the A19 heading towards the A1. Went for an overtake and grabbed a fist full of throttle to prevent getting bumped into the central reserve by a car who was pulling our 'cos they hadn't seen me an was honestly stunned at the pick up the bike had, dunno if its cos everything was properly warmed up as well but its pretty much jumped to 115 an I wa clear of it.

For that reason and that reason only its a winner, only time its causing a problem iim finding my slowing/pulling away is quite jumpy as Im still blipping too hard, and opening the throttle too much. I'll learn, god only knows why you'd want it on yours though, surely you can get enough power out of that as it is.
Think I paid £13.75 and £4.00 postage for mine from ebay (2004 r1 throttle). Only reason we fitted it to matts and not mine was because the screw holding my bar end on was seized solid and the head was stripped...

Doh, that visit to Greggs earlier was a bad idea then.....

Will these mods be easy enough for a novice like myself? I'm pretty confident I can sort an air filter out, but not so sure on the sprockets. Think I'll be making a shopping list on t'ebay later - keep em coming!

Cheers again!

Yep fork springs are the real weak point, the rest is okay. For performance, best value is the cam swap (plenty of threads on here) - K3 intakes instead of yours, put your intakes on the exhaust side, costs about £150 in parts an gives a good whack of extra power at the top end (7-10k). No rejetting etc. Once you get into cans etc. the dyno time makes it expensive.

Engine tuning is mental.
Spend money on good suspension.
