Tyre time, help needed.

Hi,

As some of you know I have a ZX6 B1 and need some new tyres, I want a ports tyre I think, something sticky but excellent in the wet as well.

Any ideas?

FWIW, I find Bridgestones terrible, but the OEM 16's are better than the aftermarket 14's. I fancy trying the Avon VP2 or VP2 Supersports next as I really liked the Storms on the SV.

You wont get both from the same tyre. The sticky sports tyres only work well when you get them hot and keep them hot. which you wont do on a wet road.

TBH any of the current crop of sports touring tyres will be just fine in the dry and give you the wet performance that you are after.

But if you want something slightly more sporty then thats fine to. Just stay away from stuff like Diablo Super Corsa's and the like.

At the end of the day its down to you and what fits your budget. What I like you may not, its pretty impossible now to buy a bad modern tyre TBH.

Corsa III's ( or whatever has replaced them ) or Michellin Pilot Power 2CT would be what I suggest you consider if you want sporty, Or if you want dry and decent wet grip then Metzler Z6 or Pirelli Diablo Strada based on my own experience. But the Avon Storms also seem to get excellent rider feedback but I havent tried those myself so cant comment.

I had VP2s on my Versys for a short while... short because they only lasted 2000 miles vfrom new to absolutely trashed and below 1mm all over. Now if I can trash them in that time with only 63bhp and twin pot sliding caliper brakes to throw through them, how long do you think they'll last on a newish ZX6R?

They did grip well wet or dry, but they don't last long enough for me to consider buying another set. I've moved to Pirelli Diablo Stradas and wet weather grip is better, and I haven't noticed any change in dry weather grip. The only issue I have is the Diablos aren't as quick to turn in and feel a touch vaguer when hard on the brakes, but never worryingly so.

Probably about the same as I'm a fairly moderate rider Were they the Sport or Supersport VP2s?
