Default Anyone else getting these???

First one in the upstairs living room last week (thankfully...the dogs can't chase them up here).

Had another one this morning just after Dan left and just now...this one.

Dan will confirm, the first one we had was significantly bigger than this one, but this isn't exactly small. This one about 1.5 inches in length...the largest easily 2 inches in length.

So.....normal hornets or could we be getting the Asian Giant Hornets making their way over from France, where they have been settled for a few years now???

Miss YC - Any thoughts?

Yowch- don't like the look of thems.

Mozzies are bad enough in my back (communal) garden- I get HUGE lumps from their bites. Need more dragon flies to eat them...

I'm not kidding guys....these things are literally huge.....the one in the pictures was not far short of the length of my thumb (from base knuckle to tip). A good 1.5-1.7 inches and as you can see.....big head and big all over!

Actually, I am kind of fascinated by these things, so let them leave of their own accord and I hope to get better pictures in future, but Dan is allergic to stings.......I've just told him to get an EpiPen just in case.

But how long are your thumbs?

Jeebs- pest control? I'd call the army if those turned up...

It's the wrong time for wasp queens to be on the move, so I'd guess it's a hornet. The only hornet I've ever seen was around 4cm long and had a truly impressive sting.

Hopefully, Miss YC can confirm.

Keith.

Just had another one headbutt the balcony doors. I might try and get a video clip of the next one....you would not believe how loud they are. I've never heard anything like it from a flying insect...lol.
