Default Reverse parking

There's a lot of BS around about this, but does anyone have any actual facts of the true variety on reverse parking? We have to do this at work, which makes it rather hard getting stuff out of the back of a car. Is there any discernable advantage? Numbers?

I am confused.

What is the question :S

Are you asking for the benefits of reverse parking?

- More Manouverability, you see women driving straight into space at the supermarket, it just doesnt work, lots of forwards and backwards faffing about, then 99% of the time they are still not straight between the lines of the space.

- Its also safer driving out of the space, than reversing out.

Have you asked your employer WHY they want everyone to reverse park? I am sure they have an explanation somewhere.

Unless I have well and truly missed the point of this post.

A previous employer insisted on reverse parking where practicable because it's much safer when pulling out because your view isn't obscured by neighbouring vehicles.

At my work you park whereever and however you can... 4 deep in places and in every bush and possible space available.

I feel for the people who can't park, but don't get why they just can't figure out to give themselves a bigger loop - then you can't miss and it'll tuck neatly in.

Sometimes I reverse park, but I like trying to fit the car into the tight spots in one going in frontways and get it neat. Much quicker than reversing it in if you can get it in one.

Sometimes you wonder if some people just forgot about the parking aspect of their test and aim into spaces cluelessly.

Incidentally a funny vid I saw a while back.

no offense ladies, just a funny vid

I do either depending on the space and situation at the time.

I prefer to reverse in to spaces for my own benefit though, because it is easier and safer to drive straight out.

What with parents letting their kids run around in car parks then threatening to kill you when they then run behind your car whilst your reversing out. Or retards just keep walking. My car has terrible rear vision.

you can get into a smaller space by reversing in, or handbrake on and spin it in doing a 180

if the car fits it'll go in both ways. Obviously front ways can be a far quicker process if you don't botch it - though when I get back to the car I do sometimes wish I'd reversed it in.

I used to work in a company with a reverse park policy, it's a fashionable health and safety concept. We were told, statistically, we were less likely to hit a pedestrian reversing into a space and driving forward out of the same space, than vice versa. Hence the "make everyone reverse park" policy.

As per IAM "always reverse park", perhaps not what you were getting at but from a safety point of view you're not (so) blindly reversing out into the potential path of other carpark/road users...
