Are you tightening them to 49 ft lbs rather than in lbs? Should it be ft lbs?

it converts to about 4.5 footpounds
no i went and bought a inchpounds wrench and that is when i broke #3
i should srecify they are the spring bolts and i would assume this was a critical tightness

5nm for the clutch bolts from what i rememnber last
5nm = 44.2inlbs = 3.7ftlbs

remember that
1) most torque values are for new bolts
2) when tigthneing bolts up, do it in one action till it clicks

i personaly tend to always lower all torque figures given by suzuki and try to work by feal

ive checked the haynes and its 5.5nm too

are you sure that your torque wrench is in.lbs and not ft.lbs

Problem with a torque wrench at such low values is that you have a lot of leverage, plus they tend to be not so accurate at the extremes of the value range. I personally would do them up with an ordinary spanner or 1/4 rachet until it feels right.

Clutch screws I always do by feel, its such a low torque rating just do them up until they start to feel tight.
