Hi eveyone! I recently just replaced an 03 sv650 engine with another one because the old one was drinking oil like a 2-stroke! The mechanic had put in 3litres of oil into the newer engine; thus completely filling up the empty engine/oil radiator/filter. Now however after 600miles of normal riding, the oil sight glass is only showing half (between F line and L line).
Is this normal?... things to point out: -Oil inspection was done on complete flat/level ground with the bike standing vertically. -Spark plugs are in normal condition. -I drained the oil that was inside the engine - it measured 2250milliliters (2.25L) |

Between the 2 lines, you'll just find some drink oil and some dont, mine drinks a bit every so often, just keep an eye on it

hmm ye, I obviously put the 2.25L of oil back into the engine. but would the remaining 0.75L of oil still inside the engine/oil radiator/oil filter?

manual states fill with about 2700ml when both oil and filter changed and 2300ml with just an oil change 3000ml is far too much and your mech may of just rounded it up and charged you for 3000ml

yh, ur right about that, but dont forget, the engine replaced was completely empty -
From Sv manual it says: *Oil change - 2300ml *Filter change - 2700ml *Overhaul -3100ml shall i fill it up to the F line or wait and see if it stays near the middle.. or worse near the L line.. |

Leave it till it gets nearer to the L level as long as its between the F and L and not above or lower its fine, just check it daily if possible, its something not enough people check regularly unfortunately (im guilty of it myself) and then major problems can occur

Also when was this check taken place? had the bike been standing? had you started it up then checked and drained the oil? i cant remember exactly but i think your meant to run the bike for 5 minutes or so leave to settle for 2 minutes then check should tell you in manual

i check it every morning before i start it (assuming all the oil have fallen to the bottom during the night) therefore "seeing" how much oil there actually is before it gets slushed around during the warm up

Id would probably say put a tad more in then just below the full level then run it then check it, dunno the exact proceduer to check it properly but i always run it let it settle then check
