Question Tax disc displaying question

Who fines you for not displaying the tax disc?

I got stopped and the two bike cops gave my bike quite a good going over.

No fines were issued, but one of the cops wrote out a ticket to send to the DVLA for not displaying a tax disc.

Do I just wait for a fine to come through the post? or have I got away with it.
The policeman said that I would have no more communication from the police and that all communication would be from the DVLA.

I know for plates, you get a ticket on the spot.
Why didn't I get one for the Tax disc.

Count yourself lucky you didn't NOT have it in your wallet for so long that three months after expiry the DVLA sent you a fine. Count yourself a bit less unlucky for telling them whilst paying the fine that you hadn't used it on the road during the last three months so you didn't have to pay the back tax.

Er..

Some police forces issue £60 fixed penalties, some send a notice to DVLA and let them sort it out...

DVLA is what it says on the tin AGENCY ----- the police[ FP] fine is for having an out of date or failing to display a current tax disc.
The actual claiming back of BACK DUTY and any additional penalty comes under the durasdiction of HM Customs and Excise which can be applied by either the DVLA or the court on there behalf as I understand it---------could be wrong though

"Failing to display a current tax disc" is what it is

Do you have a current tax disc? if not why not?

You would be hard done to by a bike cop who is bound to know they get stolen and why people keep them under seats or in wallets to get done if you had a disc.

I got done for speeding not so long ago and I do not display my tax disc. One of the very nice policemen asked where my tax disc was and I just said under the seat They were fine with that and didn't even mention the small number plate

I've been stopped several times and I have never had a tax disc on the bike. The police can check in an instant if the bike is taxed, insured and MoT'd. I have never been asked where the tax disc is or ever been asked to produce it. I have the remenants of the tax disc holder still attached to the bike. If anyone ever did mention about the tax disc, I'd say it just came off not 5 minutes ago. Fact of the matter is, they do get stolen and there is no way to stop it getting stolen. I think it's criminal bikes have to run the gauntlet of displaying the tax disc and hoping it does not get stolen. Saying that, it's now currently only £7 for a replacement. A few years ago I had to pay £40 and the actual tax cost for the bike was less than that. Felt properly fleeced.

Officially you should display your tax disc forward of the engine on the left hand side but if you get a copper telling you that then he's an ex instructor because no one else seems to know. lol.
