I just had new tyres put on the bike and have noticed alot of vibration coming through the foot pegs when slowing down and dropping down the gears. Would this indicate bad wheel alignment?
Unfortunately I don't have paddock stands at the moment to get an idea myself. Should I go back to the same garage and tell them to sort it out or go elsewhere? I understand Essential Rubber in London have a good reputation, was thinking about taking it to them. Any advice appreciated. |

Wheel alignment is unlikely to be the cause.
Essential Rubber is one of the few places worth giving money to, however as you've already paid someone to work on your bike and you feel there is something amiss with their work, you should give them the opportunity to put it right first.

Just through the pegs and not the bars?

Sounds like they're out of balance. Maybe a wheel weight fell off... or wasn't put on!

interesting you say that berlin, i had new rubber a few months ago and the guy flat refused to balance the rear wheel!! runs fine but i wonder why? his argument was it doesnt need it. i thourght it would reduce bearing wear etc.

More imbalance in tyre than wheel.

Front wheel imbalance results in a forward/backward ocillation in the fork and feels horrible. If you look down the forks you can see this happening. The same happens at the rear but it is in an up and down direction in line with the shock so the shock has a chance at dampening it. But what happens when you overwork a shock? The damping fades! So the damping gets overloaded. Your rear shock has a hard enough time of it just dealing with road undulations (especially if standard) without giving it extra to do. Not balancing the rear wheel is just laziness. I can tell the difference in handling with only 20g out on the rear wheel on my race bike.

Actually the standard shock has a really easy time, it has no damping so creates no heat at all
