Default 2000 SV650 Riding Discomfort

I am 5'11" and am having a bit of a problem finding a comfortable riding position on my SV650. The tank seems to curve in on each side to allow for knee placement, but with my long legs, my knees end up above this spot. The only way my knees flow in these grooves is if I sit way forward on the seat, this is a comfortable position, but doesn't allow my feet to access the rear brake or gear shift easily. As my feet then point almost to the ground.

The problem I have at the moment is that the balls of my feet rest on the pegs, I sit far back on the seat, I am keeping my back in a straight/neutral position, but my arms are locked out and there is a lot of pressure on my hands/wrists as I find myself pushing on the grips to maintain comfort.

I've never heard complaints of riding position discomfort with this model. What am I doing wrong? It seems if the rear brake and gearshift levers were 45 degrees lower it would be perfect. That or the handlebars need to come up 3 or 4 inches. Any comments/ideas?

I'm also 5' 11" and had no difficulties at all, just adjusted both the hand and foot levers to suit.

Is there any reason why you haven't moved the foot levers? or is it you don't know how?

on the gear side you have a link rod which goes into two rose joints, undo the two lock nuts on the bar (remember one is lefthanded) and rotate the bar this will raise and lower the lever accordingly.

On the Brake side the same effect can be achieved by adjusting the nut on the thread coming from the rear brake master cylinder to the lever itself.

Cheers Mark.

I'm 6 ft and this is the reason I sold my first SV. It was too uncomfortable. You can get handlebar risers and rearsets that will allow you to move the pegs to suit and if you do a search on the forum I think Its FJ1100/1200 handlebars that fit on the forks to raise them. Otherwise its the expensive riser type.

The aftermarket rearsets from a GSXR 600 SRAD and GSXR 600 K1 -K3 fit straight on if you can't find any SV ones at a good price. The SRAD ones move your pegs slightly further back than the K1-K3 version. Look for Sv ones that have lots of adjustment holes and not just one fixed position.

I've just fitted GSXR K1 Harris sets to my race SV and they allow you to move the pegs up, down, back and forth from the standard Naked Sv position. The Faired SV has the pegs further back than the naked as standard.

I'm 6'2" and find it fine. I am aware it's a smaller bike though and there isn't much room to move on it. I tend to sit forward with my nuts squashed on the tank for normal riding as I can grip the tank for control and can ride with my head up to get a good forward view. If the road is open I'll slide back as far as the rear seat to allow me to tuck in on top of the tank. In this position I can't access the pedals comfortably but I don't need to.
Are you new to the bike? If so give it a bit of time to get used to it and try different positions to see what works best.

I suppose that is why so many peeps do little mods to their bikes----getting a comfortable set-up for yourself is half the fun of biking ,gel seats, changing the angle and set-up of levers[Hand and Foot]adjusting suspension, different screens moving the foot rests. All these little things can be achieved fairly cheaply but can be the making of a bike into YOUR BIKE.
