Default Paging a medic: pain but no bruising

Fell over at the side of the pool yesterday evening. Typical bloke, showing off to the kids.... kicked a ball back in for them and standing foot slipped out from underneath. Landed on my heavily on my left hip close to the joint, where I don't have a lot of natural padding.

It's painful to touch or lie on in bed (hence my being tired and bit "Tim Wilky" today), but there's nothing more than a dull ache between hip and knee when moving about. I have full range of movement. Weird thing is that there's absolutely no bruising whatsoever.

It's not stopping me doing anything (walking, driving, swimming, cuddling the missus, etc). I'm aware of it but nothing more really.

What's the diagnosis?

My dear fellow, I am neither!!

Just curious as to the lack of bruising and wondering if by not getting it checked out (I'm on hols so don't want the aggro) whilst getting on with things i might be doing some harm.

Thanks for the concern

Talking Re: Paging a medic: pain but no bruising

I've bruised my bones (if there is such a thing, that's what the school nurse said) with no external bruising around the hip (showing off) in the sports hall while playing basketball years ago.
I tried to run up the wall to dunk and basically ran into the wall.
Hurt like a flipping flip and never bruised the skin.
Went away after a week.

It's either that or you'll need a hip replacement?!?!?!??!

it's not actually the bone, but the periostem, that gets bruised, the bleeding is around the bone so won't normally be seen externally, it'll take a week or so to totally go away, but should you feel any sharp pains, get it checked out properly.

Cheers Mark

Gettin a bag of frozen peas (or similar) wrapped in a tea towel may help reduce the inflamation in that area, although its a bit late now
