Default Would you give up your bike to follow a childhood dream?

Ever since I can remember I’ve always wanted to do freefalling, now I could’ve joined HM forces and done it for naff all and I nearly did, but civvie street appealed better to me at the time (isn’t hindsight a wonderful thing)
I don’t want to do a tandem jump, that doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest.

It’s something I need to get out of my system, when ever I’m on a high structure, be it a building, boat or plane I have this tremendous urge to jump (No I’m not suicidal) It’s the whole adrenalin thing I suppose, done bungee jumping 4 times, the last time didn’t do it for me.
Trouble is it’d probably lead me into base jumping or something equally as daft, every time I see the Grand canyon I always say how I’d love to strap a parachute to my back, run and leap off the edge.

After trawling the net looking at various parachuting possibilities I have decided I want to do the AFF course, basically it’s a fast track course to get you as a qualified skydiver, but these courses don’t come cheap, they cost in the region of £1300-£1700 which I haven’t got unless I
A) Join the Para’s (Which at 40 I’m a bit long in the tooth)
B) sell the bike.
Now the latter of the 2 options is the only way to go, since my MOT last year I have only covered 1400 miles so it isn’t being used to it’s full potential and I don’t think it ever will.
I find road riding becoming a complete pain in the rear at the moment, and trying to motivate myself to get the bike out of the garage is getting harder and harder.

So would you sell your beloved steed to follow a dream?

And out of interest what was your childhood dream and have you ever fulfilled it?

My dream is riding a motorcycle, so that solves that problem
But, if you only do minimal mileage & this skydiving is a dream, then, go for it I say.

If you're that close to achieving a lifelong dream you'd be daft not to. You can always buy another bike when you feel the need (and sooner or later you will).

why don't you try sky diving first at air kix to give you the sensation then make your decisions from there - if you still want to do it then sell the bike - anothe can be bought. besides life is too shorts to have regrets about trying new things

If I gave up my bikes for anything people would think I was ill. AND I'd be agreeing with them.

Depends on how much you like biking and how much you really want to jump off high towers and planes

I wouldn't give up the bike if you were still heavily using it, but if you're not then you may as well go jumping!

Don't know your location but Topcliffe has a members club.
I was in posted there in the army and although it is a civvy club it's very cheap just membership and insurance, it cost me £260 per year and probs got 50/60 jumps a year.
Nowadays you can go straight to free fall used to be static line for god knows how many before you got to freefall.
look for a local club it's a lot cheaper and once you start it's hard to give it up.
