Default eek, Dentist visit

After snapping a tooth at the AR I went to the dentist's last week for the first time in 28yrs.

No pain at all..............................................c oz it's getting sorted today at 4:30pm with the aid of a valium injection. Unfortunately they've got to open up the gum to get enough of a grip to pull the remainder out.

Your's,

Terrified wimp.

Good luck.

I haven't been to the dentist in well over three years now. Nothing hurts and they're all still in. So have not felt the need to go again yet.

How often do the rest of you go?

Yearly.

Had my first filling last time and that was fine. Got told though that because I clench my teeth I've caused hairline cracks in all 4 of my upper and lower 6s (molars) and they're giving me pain. Basically I need to have my teeth drilled out and crowns put in, so im putting it off for as long as I can until the pain is too much!

I had to have my gum cut open to have a tooth removed when it broke.

The taking out part is fine, a bit uncomfertable when they press on the tooth.

Its the after pain when the anesthetic wears off :s

Good luck

I feel your pain, I have suffered a lot with my wisdom teeth, actually I should be getting the pictures back from a CT scan this week to see if there is anything that they can do

Well done on going Bri.

I haven't been since I was 18, as I have a complete phobia of needles.
I snapped a tooth last year, after a few weeks, I finally made an appointment at a Dentist that supposedly did 'pain free' dentistry.

I explained my fears before I went to them, took a valium tablet before I went, and was still in tears in the waiting room.

When I went in, the dentist was very good - she took xrays (that was fine), had a look in my gob, told me what work would be required, and then said she could get an anaethetist who would just knock me out so I would not know what was going on.

That sounded ok, until she explained how the anaesthetic would be administered - via a NEEDLE in my hand.

At that point I left, I got an email the next day with a quote for 1 filling, and a clean up - £1600!!!

12 months on, and I still haven't done anything about treatment. I think fundamentally I need to sort something out about my needle fears before anything else...

Good luck on the day, I am sure you will be fine

Well that was almost a waste of time. The referral notes were incomplete. He didn't know I needed a valium injection, and more importantly wasn't aware I have Angina (keep it clean) and a leaky mitral valve.

He sort of thought of doing it till he took my BP, 165 over 109, and me with a tight chest and pain in the arm. At this point he was contemplating calling a nee-naa.

Back home, nowt done, waiting on hospital referral.

Hey Bri,

I understand Honey. I was sedated to have a tooth removed, due to anxiety and recently I even managed to have a crown fitted.

You will be OK, it will come and then it will be over without you having to worry. Make sure the other half comes with you to hold your hand and to look after you when you wake up.

For those of us who have an extreme reaction to the Dentist, I fully recommend a chat with your friendly GP if you are unable to see a Dentist. I suffered with a broken wisdom tooth until last year. The tooth broke in 1995 and I was too frightened to see a Dentist, in the end I had to go due to the risk of infection. My GP was very understanding and sent me to a specialist. However I was still too frightened to go.

In the end my other half took me to see a very gentle Dentist while I sobbed as I was checked out. The Dentist then referred me to hospital and I was sedated. Going like that is so easy, even I can do it with out fear.

Good luck Bri and do try again Matt, if a wimp like me can do it, then you strapping young chaps can do it too.

Give me a PM if you want group hugs and support.

Love from Jayne, a confirmed Dental Phobic. XXXX
