I did one at the Ace this summer. Format was:

Classroom session (~90min)
Town ride (~60 min)
Lunch
Classroom session (~30min)
Country ride (~120 min)
Q&A in the classroom.

They will expect you to stay within the speed limit, but ride progressively and don't dawdle behind slow vehicles if there is a _safe_ overtake available. The student who took the lead first was a bit cautious, so when my turn came I got a bit progressive

Mine was a good day out with some interesting information and coppers who liked biking and enjoy their job. Hope you enjoy yours too,

Keith.

Well just got back. I loved it. I have learned loads, especially about cornering properly.

Our format was meet 9.30am, then full classroom learning and vids until 12:40. We then had 20 mins for dinner and met outside for the riding brief.

Our ride around Ripon, Northallerton, Richmond etc, lasted right until 16:30.

It was one IAM or police rider to 2 students. Like I say I learned loads. We stopped occasionally discussed things and then got back on and praticised etc. At no point did I ever feel patronised at all.

The whole thing cost me £50, and we got a £50 voucher back for more advanced training at NYP recognised schools. We also got a bag full bits, 2 x DVD's Highway code, Neck Buff. etc.

At 16:30 we had a 30 minute debrief with our instructor and were given an IAM marking card back.

I thought it was brilliant. The North Yorkhire one must be well thought of as we had people who had ridden up from Sheffield for it.

It has definately highlighted my shortfalls and made me think about some more training.

North Yorkshire police get a lot of bad press from local bikers, but this has really raised my opinion of them, and what they are trying to do to reduce bike casualities.

Oh and the Black R1, that they have with the blue lights on. WOW. Can that thing shift.

Bike safe is an excellent way to enhance your riding IMO. I did a day last year from the Warren in Surrey on the most atrocious day weather wise. If you enjoyed the training then IAM or ROSPA are good ways of continuing to develop, again IMO.

Had Bikesafe course with Fife constabulary on Sunday ( Totally Free of charge). As per the OP I thought it was a well thoughtout course run by 2 excellent instructors with a genuine interest in biking. I would recomend anyone interested in improving their riding skill to apply for these courses. I will now look at ROSPA or IAM for my next advancement..

Yeah, I am looking towards doing IAM now. I am just waiting to hear when I go to the group for an initial assessment. It certainly changed my perception of what IAM is.

Nice one Dan. The pipe and slippers come with age, not with rider training.......

Yeah,

That perception is so wrong. One of our instructors had an R1. The bloke who took us was a good laugh, inspired confidence and had a knack for teaching.

I am 34 years old, so not quite ready for my pipe and slippers yet either.
