Default Bike Doesn't like being filled up.

A couple of times recently, when I have filled the bike (1999 Curvy 'X') up, it has decided that it wants to stall

I filled up, started the bike, but once it started and then stalled immediately (took about 4-5seconds of turning over to start), the second time, it started fine then when I got to the exit of the petrol station and pulled the clutch in, it stalled. Wouldn't start in first (clutch in, stand up, alarm off), but started when I put it in Neutral.....

This has happened when the bike was relatively cold, but I think this could be a red herring. The choke had been on, but taken off after anbout 2miles then I travelled a further 2miles or so to the petrol station where I filled up.

I have followed this process and filled up at the same place since getting the bike and it isn't significantally colder at the min, so I'm not too sure what the problem (if it could be called that) is.

Bike has 25kmiles and was serviced 3kmiles ago. Since previous fill up, the bike had done between 140 and 160 miles each time.

Any ideas?

Maybe its flooding itself or there could be a loose connection somewhere on either the stand, clutch etc.
I had a filling station accident when i filled the VTR for first time and it decided the fuel would be better placed all over my knackers!!!! Being left handed i filled up from the left side but the pump is there (i think) and it hit it and jumped straight out of the tank!! Lesson learned

I sounds like the battery maybe starting to go! Mine had similar symptoms all the way until it let go.

What fuel station do you use or is it the first 1 you see?

Battery is pretty new (I know this doesn't mean it can't be going, but makes it less likely) and this doesn't happen any other time.

I use a Tesco filling station, have used the same one for the last three years for cars and more recently bikes. Also, this wasnt the last 2 times, it happened once then three weeks after that and the bike gets filled up every week....

May just have to monitor it...

A lot of folk have reported strange running issues when using Tesco fuel. Not making any judgement, just saying.......

My initial thoughts were about the fuel itself, but runs fine before and after.

It's probably cold enough for carb icing, also is the clutch switch working OK ?

sounds like sidestand switch, check connections, the side stand is falling down slighty causing the it to kill the engine in gear, it could be the spring after 11 years is giving up.

Battery died this morning, it hinted yesterday that it was on it's way out but was having none of this cold weather starting.....

Could have been the issue as when I have been reading through some of the battery threads, I have found a couple that talk about failing to start after a short run.

From work to filling up is the shortest run I do so could be the issue.

Off to buy a new battery now.
