ok. my VFR
just changed the back brake pads.. old pads had metal shims on to stop the brakes squealing I presume.. should they be transferred to the new ones? or just put the new ones on..? there does not seem to be enough space even with pistons tight back to put the shim and padding on too? so should shims be on ALL brake pads or not ? The shims are to stop brake squeal, technically they should be there but it won't kill you

Maybe worth giving them a quick buff with a wire brush whilst your there if they have any build up on them ....... outside in a breeze as well , don`t inhale that stuff mate .

Good morning all.
If I recall correctly, EBC recommend that you don't re fit insulators with their pads. However, shims such as in the rear caliper on a Curvy should be re fitted. As, they help maintain even pad wear. Cheers. |

How do they help maintain even wear?
