I’m a Production Team Leader on the Nimrod MRA4 at Woodford which is a victim of the Defence cost cutting ( sorry Review ).
I was sent home last night after a briefing from the SMT who say they are surprised at the decision. I’ve got to go back in on Thursday for more detail.
I can’t believe the government don’t think they need this capability anymore. Don’t they watch Spooks ?
I’ve just delivered the last production airframe into paint in preparation for it’s marriage to it’s brand new wings later this year.
Watch out for those Russian subs, don’t get lost out at sea and don’t expect a British flying Command Center to be watching over you on your missions in the desert.
Here is a vid of the second development aircraft flying a display back in 2007, which explains some of it’s capabilities.

Sorry to hear that... Apparently we dont need any armed forces though... ha. Though that was also the stance of Labour** so I think this was coming no matter what happens. I hope you come out of this ok though!

**Yes, I mentioned Labout, but it was true, they sent us to war (or no, sorry it wasnt "really" war) and then decided not to fund it.

Thats really bad news Ratty.
When we saw just how many jobs were to go on the news last night, we were just flabberghasted. How they can justify so many losing jobs is anyones guess.
Can't understand how they can say, we're cutting this many jobs here, and then say they are stopping benefits there. After all, where are all these jobless going to find alternative vacancies.

So sorry, hope you get some good news

The nimrod was another BAE? cockup, didnt they try to keep the old airframe and put new wings on before realising they were all slightly different, even then there was a design fault.

We should just buy hardware from abroad because BAE are crap, always way over budget and massively delayed; thats were all the money has gone.

We coudl all sit here and blame eberyone else, but as they say sh't happens. However, i hope that you find something that you enjoy doing, even if it is enforced on you mate.

I just don't think its very nice. And theres way too many people heading towards being jobless...which means a whole lot of sad, and frustrated people
