Sorry but this is a small work related whinge. Yeh, I know some would love just to have a job.
This the final quarter of our financial year and, typically, its manic. I've been averaging 60-70 hrs per week for weeks. Last Wednesday I worked till 2am, and was back at my desk for 8am. Friday I worked till 10pm, and was back at my desk by 6am. Yesterday it was 10pm, and up at 6am this morning. I'm away for the next 5 weeks, some days see me in Hemel Hempstead for a full day and then Glasgow, working, by 7pm till... Mrs B has growled, and she very rarely growls about me working. I know no one listens to a whinger... just letting off a bit of steam. Rant over.

Could be worse, you could be at home waiting for Jeremy Kyle to start...

Did you not say you were retiring soon to somewhere sunny?
Tell her if she want that goal achieved then she need to accept it for a bit... I'm sure she will happily spend the Christmas bonus you earn from working the hours without considering where it came from lol.

when you coming up to glasgow??
if it keeps up for over the three months - its WTD but regardless of that there MUST be a minimum break of 11 hours between shifts - assuming your not in an exempt category. Make sure that you get a least 2 legal shift breaks a week otherwise it will play havoc with health |

Presenteeism----Another British disease.I bet you dont get paid overtime for all the hours either?
Seriously, you could leave and do them for constructive dismissal if you play your cards right.

It ain't 'done' to raise your rights under the Working Time Directive... I know that regardless of whatever they're obliged to do, it's a black mark...
Can't you point out all these silly hours to the boss and say you don't mind doing it but you do think you deserve more hols for it. |

Depends if he gets overtime paid?
![]() I do ~ 45 hours per week normally, but when it gets busy will be in some Saturdays and Sundays. I get overtime paid, but I have signed out of the working times, minimum hours per week, hours between shifts etc It was a condition of employment. |

Make sure your boss knows about it and arrange to take some of the time back in January when it's quieter, then it's not so bad, you really enjoy that time off knowing that it's extra and you earned it.
I work from home and manage my own hours, also my job is all peaks and troughs from one fortnight to the next, so I do have weeks where I'm either eating, sleeping, or working, but I also have other weeks where I can take some of the time back and that makes it worth it. In my last job I could be away from home from Sunday night to Thursday night and working silly hours in between, then return to the office on Friday. If I then walked out the door at 5:25pm, the boss was looking at his watch as if to say "where the hell are you going?". He was Technical Director and owned 25% of the company, saw everything as if it came directly out of his own pocket and he was a giant ***** to boot. If you end up staying near Northampton or Kettering, give me a shout and we'll have a beer one evening to relieve the hotel bar boredom. |
