Hey guys,
So my beloved Honda Fireblade is now destroyed. ![]() A special thanks goes to the driver of a Black Renault Clio, who thoughtfully pulled out in front of me. This all happened around 20:00 last night. At the junction of Battlefield Road and Holmlea Road. I was travelling along Battlefield road (speed was about 25mph) when Mr Clio decided he would pull out from Holmlea road. I had maybe 2 seconds to react, if that. What happened next was described to me by witnesses. I hit the right hand side front wheel of the car. Flew (Clark Kent style) over the handlebars and over his bonnet, and proceeded to roll about 20-30 feet down the road. All I could think about was my poor bike. 2 reasons I'm writing this. 1: To get it off my chest. ![]() 2: I walked out of the hospital about 2 hours later with just a limp. I think I owe a lot of that to wearing the proper gear. The armour on my boots, elbows, knees and shoulders have almost worn through in places. So all are now needing thrown in the bin. But I don't have a scratch on me ![]() In future I will never ride in trainers and jeans again. I'm just thankfull I wasn't wearing that last night, or I'm sure it would have been a completely different story. I'll be wearing a high viz in future too. Stay safe boys and girls..... |

Glad to hear you're ok sounds nasty
![]() I started wearing mine all the time after some bint drove out onto a main road without slowing down, she'd looked for a split second but by then had already committed to going for it...thankfully i was keeping to the 20mph limit, if I'd have been going any faster! I know what you mean though Matt, attitudes do seem to change if you're wearing a high vis, but I'm used to it as I have L plates lol. YC says other motorists tend to treat high vis as a sign of nervousness...I feel safer in one though, particularly in bad weather. Last edited by missyburd; 11-11-10 at 10:43 AM. |

My reasoning is if someone managed not to see a bike with a headlight on, a jacket won't do much difference. Plus there was a thread on here on here once about how wearing hi viz makes you look like a learner and drivers feel forced to overtake you, sometimes putting themselves/you at risk. |

On a sports bike, you tend to be leant over the front reducing the amount of body that is seen too. If they dont see a headlight, they wont notice a high viz. ![]() glad your ok though. Last edited by speedplay; 11-11-10 at 12:28 PM. |
