average price for a 6 shock, although people generally go for the 10 shock

Tried the 6 & the 10 shocks, both very similar. It will make a heck of a difference, but will then show up the front end

I had a 10 shock on my SV, and this is very true! You'll need to do something with the front end too. At the very least new fork oil and springs, or the bike will feel worse to ride than it did before fitting the shock. When choosing an oil, ignore the watt rating and find out what the centistokes at 40 degrees rating is, you want it between 35 and 45 cst@40 IMO, if you are not fitting cartridge emulators. Gixxer front end is really the way to go if you have the time and inclination, but cartridge emulators nearly as good.
BTW check the length of your 6 shock, you may want to get a bracket made up to lengthen it slightly. Last edited by -Ralph-; 20-11-10 at 10:35 AM. |

Yeah that is about right viscosity... use same with emulators as oil weight affects rebound more than anything, emulators control comp with pressure on a spring not fluid drag.

Could the emulators actually cope with a heavier oil, because the damper rod holes have been drilled out bigger and the forks wont be as prone to hydraulic lock?

That's the idea, they flow a hell of a lot of oil when fully open and knock the high speed damping down
