I might park the bike for the winter months. What do i need to do with regards to the battery? Do i just start the bike every now and then or do i remove the battery and leave it on trickle charge or something like that?

Remove and trickle charge is best.In fact you only need to charge it for a few hours every couple of weeks to maintain it.

Don't just start it - that'll do more harm than good.
Riding it would be best, but if you don't want to then charge it when you store it, and again every month or six weeks.
