My speedo on the exup stopped working a while ago. It stopped working a short while after refitting the front wheel so assumed it was the normal thing of the speedo drive not working. This weekend I replaced the speedo with a new unit. Unfortunately the speedo is still not working.
I then thought it must be the cable itself that is broken. But I have checked this and when turning the cable at the drive end, I get movement on the dial. I then inserted the cable into the old drive off the bike and used a screwdriver to spin the drive. I got movement on the dial again. So I reinstalled the old drive on the wheel, span the wheel and again no movement. I swapped over the old drive and fitted the cable to the new one. Spun the drive with a screwdriver and again got movement on the dial. I then decided to make sure the locating lugs were working in the wheel. With the wheel off the bike, I fitted the drive back to the wheel and turned it round 45 degrees. Carefully took the drive back out and made sure the locating holes matched where the lugs are. They did. Lastly I did the same with the new drive. It didn't match at all. It would seem the lugs don't reach the holes on the new drive. Yet when I hold them next to each other, they appear identical. Stumped now. ![]() Anyone got any ideas? Only thing I have not done is look behind the clocks where the cable goes in. But seeing as I can get movement on the dial, I don't really see this as being the problem. ![]() |

i've come across this on other bikes with worm drives. usually the threads have been crossed at the clocks/drive so the cable nut that connects wont tighten up far enough to allow the drive cable inner to make contact with the worm gear inside the clocks/drive.

have you located the 'spline' at the wheel drive end of the inner cable into the drive properly?
does the old drive spin the inner cable while you turn the front wheel? |

If I were you I'd take the cable out of the speedo, connect everything else back up and spin the front wheel to make sure the cable is turning.

![]() Currently have serious issues with neck pain at the moment so although being off work, I am not able to complete this task. Hopefully I will be fit enough to give it a go this weekend. When I eventually get to that stage I'll report further what I have found out. |
