Do you get the same look I do from non bikers when you tell them your plans for getting away on the bike? I've had...that must be knackering, thats not a holiday, how do you carry souvenirs, what if it rains, holidays involve planes and a pool

When I said either next year or the year after my summer holiday is 2 weeks touring the pyrenees/alps, my gf's mum looked like i'd just ****ed in her fine china. 2b fair so did my gf

And telling my sister in law I want to get away by myself for a weekend and tour the scottish borders and northumberland. Stunned!

You can stick your package holidays up your......

I get much the same thing, when I went to the lakes in feb this year or out on the snow just recently, but that's from other bikers, everyone has their own idea of fun

I get the same reaction from my mates when I start talking about doing a biking holiday. My mates who ride think its a great idea though.

ok if you insist! Only slight prob is now i'm my own boss holidays cost me double, paying for them and not taking any fees whilst i'm away. But its better than the alternative of working for some douche

I forgot to mention I kept the camping whilst away on the bike as my ace in the hole, when I tell them that theyre ringing for the men in white coats

Don't take this the wrong way, but you're mad even by the standards of the rest of us...

I think there is a general demise in the idea of the touring holiday these days... Think the only ones who see the merit of it are us and the caravanners.

When I told folx I was going to the Alps on the bike, the general reaction was like I said I was going to Mars. 'What, all that way on a bloody motorbike?' - 'Yep, all that way on a bloody motorbike'

Peoples conception of distances when you mention Europe seem to get very distorted
Zeebrugge to Basel is only 684kms=425miles[100kms or 60 miles to Dover for crossing],yet London to the "Green Welly at tyndrum is 745kms=465miles,an hour further
Apart from the distance there is less traffic yet we think nothing of driving or riding to Scotland
