Can't think James May is the quickest Atom hot-shoe.

You could put Mr Blobby in a V8 Atom and I'd wager it'll destroy an S1000 on the track in everything save for perhaps a straight line drag race...

haha it comes full circle too!!!

The atom V8 uses busa heads, cylinders and toughened pistons built by a USA firm

but holeshot racing are even more mental

Apparently the Atom won, so my son tells me. They did want to use the Evo Bee em, but the BBC said no, wonder why? lol

I'm all for the car vs. bike thing but the fact 95% of the time the bike will trounce the car on anything with decent straights and long sweeping corners just means the producers of car programmes and editors of car magazines just reach for the ariel atom each time the challenge comes up.

It's entertaining enough but they can only replay the same 'generic litre sportsbike vs. ariel atom = cars are better' x amount of times before everyone gets bored.

Aye, I wouldn't even call the Atom a 'car'

I saw the one on top gear on boxing day 2003, then in october 2004 at ferrybridge services 2 pulled up at once

since then I've probably seen about 3 on the road and 4 at car shows.

How about car vs. bike with something like a £5k cap? used or new - my mate just sold an audi s4 which had had thousands spent on it and was apparently pushing around 550 horses (4 wheel drive in a saloon body) with rs6 brakes, rs4 clutch, bigger turbo, better internals etc...

When he first started telling me about it I was giving it "oh right, yeah it sounds fast, nice one buddy" - FOOK ME.. THE FASTEST CAR I'VE BEEN IN.

Only problem with it was the reliability issues as every other week it was "sucking up boost" or "running rough" or "needed some attention to the clutch" etc. Apart from that it incredible & only a 2003 reg iirc. He sold it for £6k to a mate and I reckon it'd probably d!ck quite a few sportsbikes tbh.

Its always an interesting debate Car v's Bike.

The main points....

- Any idiot can drive a car fast, there are that many driving aids nowdays. Where as it takes a fair bit of skill to ride a bike quickly.
- Car times around UK tracks are always faster than bike times, fact!.
- A car has 4 big rubber contact patches to corner quicker and can also stop quicker. Most just can't accelerate like a bike.

The fact is a bike is very quick in a straight line, but in most circumstance a well driven car will be quicker than a well ridden bike... and a ok driver in a quick car will beat most normal riders.
