Default It looks like the end of commuting for me

I accepted a new job on Wednesday and it will be based in Wembley.

On paper it works out at 22 miles each way, so 24 miles a day more than i used to do. With fuel being at the level it is and taking into account stuff like tyres and maintaince, its near as damn it financially equal to a Monthly Travel card. This is not fair.

Im looking at around £120+ on fuel (Current prices) and its £150 for the travel card.

So, I'll have a pop for one month and see how it goes but i think then end is neigh for the Doris commute

Damn you fuel companies

Other Annual costs

2 x Services - £120
1 x Front tyre - £80
2 x Rears - £240

=£440/12 = £36 a month

Fuel - £120

So £156 a month!!

Congrats on the new job anyway!

I had a similar situation when I lived in Tottenham, it wasn't worth commuting in when a travel card was around £20 a week (and I could have a couple of pints at lunchtime and a cheeky one after work)

You know...

Considering the oil companies have to extract crude from some miles beneath an ocean floor in storms and everything. Then ship it around the world in the largest moving man made structures ever built, then refine ten litres down to one, then move it by truck to your local petrol station...

I reckon 40p or whatever part of the price per litre isn't tax is a good deal...

I mean, Royal Mail couldn't deliver an A4 letter to the next town for that much...

But yes, public transport is for communists and people who don't wash properly...

I do 21 miles each way. Not in London anymore so that helps and not being able to pop out for a quick one at lunchtimes (if you can) is a pain but as soon as you get stuck under a sweaty armpit in the morning or the curry breath inhalation and have to push and shove to get on the tube or bus I would still get on the bike.

Yup,

It'd be worth paying that little bit extra not to use public transport IMO.

Its marginal for me but I'd pay not to travel cattle class and also saves a bunch of time with being able to leave whenever I fancy.

That's a zilch difference. In fact, I'd pay more to ride two wheels and the best hobby ever to work than try and save a few and share a crapqy commute with sneezing farting imbeciles on their dongles. stick with the bike if that's the only price difference imo.
