Default Stolen Vehicle Database

Don't know if anyones seen this yet but I saw it on another forum I visit;

http://stolenvehicledatabase.org/

Was launched yesterday with the aim of getting to be the best place to report, and hopefully recover, stolen bikes. The site wants to lower the number of bike thefts through "education and intel"

Anyway I just thought it would be ideal to mention this

You REALLY think that bike thieves trawl Streetview looking for bikes, considering Streetview is now, what, 2 years out of date?

Much easier to just drive around, see a bike, grab it, I would have thought...

Am I missing something? How is reporting your stolen bike on this site going to help get it recovered/found?

Because we all believed theives stripped the bikes down and flogged the parts on ebay etc, but these sites must think they ride around on them with the original plate, or offer them for sale without disguising their identity.

(It may help if you find one in a bush somewhere, but you'd call the 5-0 anyway then)

So if someone offers you a motorcycle to buy, you can then go on these websites to check if it has been stolen or not? I thought there was already a database for that. HPI? Please do excuse my thickness, just not grasping what the sites are going to achieve. If I were want to know for sure if a bike I was potentially interested in, was stolen, I would just do a HPI check which is far more likely to be correct would it not?
