Default Who knows best? Aka: Which bike should I get?!

Hey all,

As some of you are aware, I had a lovely introduction to the side of a car early in Nov.
Am recovering good, but the SV aint going to see the positive side of the road ever again.
So was wondering, what would be a more sporty bike to move onto...
With insurance money payout (her fault, so I keep No-claims), etc, should be able to budget for £4000 - £4500 (inc. Fully comp. ins too!).
Preferably a bike under 10k miles, but if a particular beasty is good with a few more then ok!

Considered a Daytone 955i...

Please, discuss...

Q lots of people recommending the bike that they currently own

What do you want a bike for ? trackdays, touring, road riding, sunday toy or a commuter mile muncher ?

Depends entirely on intended use.

Purely going off your sporty comment, for that money you're looking at a K5 possibly K6 GSXR600, '05 CBR600 or maybe even an '07 Ninja 600.

Personally i'd go for the ninja. But then I would say that

Hi,

I'm no expert having only bought two bikes, but I'll make some general comments then get into my flameproof suit....

1) What do you want the bike to do?

There's no point buying a tourer if you want a track machine, and vice versa. Would a general purpose bike like the SV suit or do you want something more focussed?

2) How big are you?

If you're built like a whippet on amphetamines a 600 would probably suit you well, but if you're 6'6" and built like a brick outhouse you might be happier on a 750 or a litre bike.

3) How important is shiny.

Do you want to go for a Sunday pose on a RR with matching leathers, or would you be happier on something pig ugly that goes like sh** off a shiny shovel?.

Answer these questions and you'll probably narrow the field down to a handful of bikes.

But not all sports bikes are like that. I'm 6ft and 14 1/2 stone I fit very comfortably onto my GSXR-750. No doubt that the current crop of sports bikes are small and I felt cramped on a K6 GSXR 600 when I rode that, but on the OP's budget something nearly or relatively new is probably out of his range anyway.
