Default SSA needs a special tyre?

Triumph dealer in Wellingborough told me yesterday when I went in to enquire about the price of tyres, that because my bike has a single sided swingarm it has to have a reinforced tyre. I told him that I had Pirelli Diablo Strada's on my SV and would be looking for something similar in terms of sports touring grip vs longevity, he said the Pirelli would "rip itself apart" on the Daytona.

Any of this true?

Oh yeah triumph made the SSA so it flexes so much it relies on the tyre for stiffness and it doesn't handle like a bag of sh*t

What a c*nt. Go somewhere else for your rubber.

Sounds like nonsense to me. I had a 748 for years and never heard anything like that from any source.

I can't believe a stealer would even think he could use that bullsh*t to be honest, the rear wheel will move around like any other bikes so if you want a particular tyre that fits the wheel and style of riding then get it

2000 miles in, my storm rear on the 1050 isn't showing anything odd, and Avon only do one version in that size - I'd say the guy is talking nonsense.

Storm ultras have been known to delaminate when fitting them (against avon's recommendations) to pan europeans. But for anything S3/daytona weight normal tyres are fine

Colin, please never go back there again if that is the advice he is giving out....total and utter rubbish....

I spent loads of time researching both SSSA & DSSA and never seen anything mentioned about differing tire choices.
