Why not use the SV? It's a good commuter, good mpg and comfy for a longish ride and is worth less than you are willing to pay for a commuter bike anyway...

How far do you need to travel? Do you want/need upright bars/higher seated position? twin or il4?

Aye, how far.

Any distance, I'd probably look seriously at a dullville as they're very good on fuel and importantly tyres.

Shorter distance, little stuff is good, 125s, 250s, even 600 singles.

I admit I felt it doing 350 mile round trips in a day but doing a work commute aint that bad really...

Granted something with riser bars would be better suited, but it really does depend on distance. Having a second bike and the maintenance and insurance that goes with it might be a tad overboard I think.

edit: top yoke riser bar kit for the SV650S?

In the OP he mentions selling his car.

So the maintainance/insurance is already there.

The insurance would probably be cheaper if you add it to an existing bike policy anyway.

Theres always the option of selling both the car and the sv and getting a VFR or GS etc...
